Why This Role Matters

The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for fabricating and assembling sheet metal components and products according to specifications, drawings, and work orders. This position requires precision, craftsmanship, and a commitment to safety, efficiency, and quality. The Fabricator works closely with the Supervisor to ensure that all materials, equipment, and tasks are coordinated effectively to meet project timelines and company standards.

What You’ll Do

· Check with the supervisor at the start of each day for the morning schedule and any delivery updates.

· Communicate material, detail, and equipment needs in advance to ensure workflow continuity.

· Assess job priorities and secure the appropriate equipment and machinery before beginning tasks.

· Plan and organize fabrication work to ensure jobs are completed on time and to specification.

· Evaluate the most efficient way to complete each job while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

· Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine fabrication and assembly methods.

· Lay out and mark reference points and dimensions on materials using rulers, squares, scribers, and other tools.

· Apply shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns, templates, or product outlines.

· Set up and operate a variety of computerized or manual sheet metal fabricating equipment such as:

o Shears

o Press brakes

o Punch presses

o Forming rolls

o Hand brakes and other forming tools

  • Cut, bend, form, and straighten materials according to precise measurements and tolerances.
  • Weld, solder, bolt, rivet, screw, caulk, or bond components using appropriate tools and methods.
  • Inspect finished parts for accuracy, quality, and fit.
  • Assist with monthly sheet metal inventory audits.
  • Collect accurate job information from sheet metal crews for daily timecard reporting.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored.
  • Follow all company safety policies and always wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in training and process improvement initiatives as required.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience in sheet metal fabrication, assembly, or a related trade.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal machinery safely.
  • Basic math skills and ability to perform measurements and conversions accurately.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with TIG/MIG welding or soldering.
  • Forklift or equipment operation certification.
  • Familiarity with roofing or construction sheet metal applications.
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Environment: Work performed primarily in a fabrication shop, with occasional field or site exposure. May involve exposure to heat, noise, sharp edges, and metal dust.
  • Physical Effort: Regularly required to stand, bend, kneel, lift up to 75 lbs, operate equipment, and handle tools or materials for extended periods.
  • Hours: Full-time position with varying hours based on workload and project schedules. Overtime may be required.
