Job Description

The City of Matthews Missouri is seeking applications for a water and wastewater maintenance operator to help with city maintenance operations. A variety of skilled technical maintenance work in operation, water treatment, wastewater treatment, distribution and collection systems. Knowledge of water treatment, water distribution and wastewater treatment is required. Other duties will include mowing, tree trimming, parks and cemetery maintenance. A mandatory on-call schedule will be required once all training is complete. Pay will be based on experience. Benefits include paid retirement, paid health insurance and paid vacation.

• Operate, monitor, and maintain the City’s water treatment and wastewater treatment systems.
• Perform maintenance and operational duties for water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
• Conduct routine testing, sampling, and reporting to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair water and sewer lines, valves, hydrants, pumps, and related equipment.
• Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and regulatory records.
• Respond to water and wastewater system emergencies.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures and regulatory requirements.

Additional Duties:

• Mowing and general grounds maintenance.
• Tree trimming and brush removal.
• Maintenance of city parks and cemetery grounds.
• Street cleaning and other public works duties as assigned.

Work Schedule & On-Call:

• Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
• A mandatory on-call rotation will be required once all training is complete.

Required Qualifications:

• Missouri Class C Water Operator License (required at time of hire).
• Missouri Class D Wastewater Operator License (preferred; must be obtained if not held at time of hire).
• Missouri Distribution System Operator License – Class 2 (preferred; must be obtained if not held at time of hire).
• Knowledge of water treatment, water distribution, and wastewater treatment processes.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to respond to after-hours and emergency call-outs.
